Tips On How To Install A Car Alarm

Installing a car alarm isn't a difficult task.  It does require patience and focus to ensure that the wires are matched correctly.  Otherwise all of the effort will be wasted when the car is turned on and the alarm doesn't respond.  Let's take a look at how to Install Car Alarm systems.

The first step of an alarm installation is to read the manual.  It will save a lot of hassle down the road.  Read it, and then read it again to make sure that nothing of importance was missed.  Round up all of the tools that are required in the manual and have some extras just in case.  You may need wire stripping pliers, screwdrivers, electrical tape and wire nuts to start with.  A drill and a special tool to pop the dashboard may be needed in case a switch is run into the dashboard.  If the vehicle has electric locks, most manufacturers have a number to call in order to determine which wire is used for connecting to the alarm.  This will enable the remote lock/unlock feature.

After the prep has been finished, you will then need to determine where to mount the module and the horn.  Take your time as this is the most important step of them all.  It's important to lay things out now so as to avoid a tangle of wires later.  Hook up any relays and plug in all wiring then do a preliminary placement in the vehicle.  The importance of this step cannot be stressed enough.  Putting in some extra effort will ensure a successful installation of your car alarm.

Start by attaching the alarm to the firewall inside the engine compartment.  Do this in an area close to the driver's side door.  You may have to drill a hole in the firewall in order to run the alarm wire.  There may be an existing hole to run the wire through, eliminating the need to drill.  Whichever the case, thread the wire into the vehicle's compartment and hook it up to the module.  Do the same for the power wire that runs from the battery.  Attach the rest of the relevant wiring to the power door locks and to the ignition switch.  Also attach the wire to the valet switch if one has been provided.  Make sure to cover all loose ends, minimally, with electrical tape.  It's preferable to use shrink tape for a clean connection instead.

If doing a self install of a car alarm doesn't appeal to you, there's always the option of having someone else do it for you.
